When to Go

Picking the right month is half the trip.

China spans 5 climate zones. The best time depends on where you want to go and what you want to see. Use the seasonal guide to start; advisors will refine based on your dates.

By season

Spring (Mar–May)

Cherry blossoms in Wuxi, peach trees in Tibet, and the year's most reliable weather across most of the country. Crowds build through May.

Summer (Jun–Aug)

Lush, monsoon-green, and warm — ideal for Yunnan, Tibet, and the grasslands. Cities can be sticky; head north or up.

Autumn (Sep–Nov)

Crisp air, golden ginkgo at the Forbidden City, blue skies in Xi'an. Most travelers' favorite — book early.

Winter (Dec–Feb)

Harbin's ice festival, snow-capped Yellow Mountains, and the lowest crowds of the year. Lunar New Year reshapes everything in late January or February.
