Go once for the heritage facades in daylight and again for Pudong after dark.
If you can only see the Bund once, go from dusk into night. If you have time, return by day for the building details. Crowds gather quickly here, so photography and street crossings take patience; avoid tying it to a restaurant far across town.
The riverwalk, bridges, and reused industrial buildings show a different side of the city.
This route does not need to be packed. The value is in noticing bridges, river edges, and reused warehouses while walking. One or two stops are enough: a cafe, exhibition, or bookstore can become a natural pause so the walk does not become a forced march.
Wukang and Anfu roads work better as an unhurried walk than as a checklist of stops.
The former French Concession rewards a slow pace, but it should not become a list of every popular street name. Choose Wukang Road or Anfu Road as the spine, then turn into side streets. In hot weather, plan indoor pauses because tree shade alone will not be enough.
