Chengdu hotpot takes time and needs a spice check. First-timers can choose a split pot or mild spice instead of going heavy right after a flight or before a rushed night plan.

Food in Chengdu should not be planned only around viral restaurants. A steadier approach is to place proper meals, snacks, and rest stops along the day's route instead of crossing the city repeatedly for one meal.

Dandan noodles, Zhong dumplings, egg cakes, and bobo chicken are worth tasting, but they work best with neighbourhood walks. Crossing town repeatedly for snacks weakens the pace.

When trying local flavours for the first time, do not order the entire checklist at once. Start with one or two representative dishes, then add based on spice level, richness, and the group's comfort.

If the previous night was heavy hotpot, use gaiwan tea, simple noodles, and lighter snacks the next day. Chengdu food is broader than oil and heat.

Meals can help regulate the pace of the trip. A walking-heavy day needs simple warm food, a scenery day needs convenient meals along the route, and the slower sit-down meal is usually better saved for the evening.
